Mallika Sherawat's international venture Hiss is close to completion and will be ready way before the scheduled time.according to the sources.The film is high on SFX,the actress made sure the budget was under control.
The movie's special effects are said to be on par with Hollywood flicks as mallika has hired some of the best technicians for the project.She may have cut down on costs on hiring the cast,but she wanted no compromise when it came to technical expertise.Everything may be going according to the plan,but Mallika is not in a rush to release the film.She wants to hold the premiere of Hiss at the Cannes Film Festival next year.

Rakhi ka Swayamvar - Rakhi Sawant selected her life partner
In the first ever televised 'Swayamvar' item girl Rakhi Sawant chose Toronto based Elesh Parujanwala as her life partner in a unique reality TV show the final episode of which ended on late Sunday night, August 2, 2009.
NDTV Imagine's ' Rakhi ka Swayamvar' ran 26 episodes before Rakhi Sawant made her final choice from the three finalists out of the original list of 16 contestants. The other two finalists were Manas Katyal and Chhitiz Jain, both from New Delhi.
'I have been watching Elesh from day one. On and off the camera, he has been the same and has really taken care of me. He is everything I was looking for and I am glad to have found him on the Swayamvar. Swayamvar means finding a life partner and I have found Elesh’, said Rakhi Sawant.
According to Rakhi, it was her engagement and she is ready to get married after understanding each other better off camera, Rakhi said after announcing her choice. Rakhi was in red and gold lehenga-choli and kundan jewellery looking like a perfect bride. Elesh Parujanwala was in white sherwani and turban.
Asked when where he would like to go for honeymoon, Elesh said that he would prefer Niagara Falls, followed by Disney USA. Garlands and rings were exchanged in the dramatic finale.

Mani Ratnam's next movie
As we know, Mani Ratnam's next movie would be titled as Ashokavanam (a place located in Srilanka as per the Ramayana age).
Aishwarya Bachchan will feature in the film opposite Vikram, her first time pair on screen.
Ashokavanam happens to be the film of Director Mani Ratnam and the estimated budget of this film is said to be 120 crores.
Sources reveal that the cast and crew of the film are taking almost 36 cores from the whole budget. Apart from the lead pair, leading actors Karthik and Prithviraj are going to play the characters of negative shade in this film.
According to the sources, the director has agreed to pay Rs.5 crores, a whopping amount paid by him to any other Indian actor(s), including the superstar for his earlier appearance in Dalapathy.
The Hindi version of this film is titled as Ravan in which Ash will share the screen space with her hubby Abhishek Bachchan.
The Hindi version has Govinda in an interesting role and it is said that Amitabh Bachchan will also make a special appearance.
This film will have Mani Ratnam as the director and Simran will be taking up the duty as an assistant director. She is planning to make her debut as a director next year and will learn some few techniques from the ace director Mani Ratnam.
Suhasini the wife of Mani Ratnam will play the role of a Devi for a few seconds in this film.

Billu Barber Movie Review
The story is about a poor Barber, Billu in a village which is filled with lively people. Billu lives with his wife and two children and leads a content life. But his life changes when Sahir Khan (Shahrukh) arrives to that village for a film’s shooting and the whole village gets animated. The people come to know that Billu is an old friend of Sahir and start showering him with a lot of help in hope of getting close to Sahir Khan. Billu is a little skeptical that Sahir would have forgotten him, and wouldn't recognize him. Will Sahir remember Billu? Will the old friends meet again? Find out yourself in a theatre near you.
The movie is a decent one which has its moments but the slow pace and too many songs make you restless. Priyadarshan proves once again how competent a director he is, with too many characters the need for a professional at the helm is a must and who better than Priyadarshan? But he does loose his grip when too many unwanted songs are added and the second half moves at a snail pace.
Technically the movie is decent with cinematographer Manikandan's work clear as crystal but with steady cams mostly he is in no mood to experiment. Editing by Arun Kumar is a let down and snipping at least 20 minutes off the running time would do a world of good to the film. Music by Pritam has nothing to write home about, and none of the songs stay with you after the end of the screening. Dialogues by Manisha Korde and Mushtaq needs special mention as it makes the proceedings enjoyable.
Acting wise, Irfan khan comes up with a performance which is extremely enjoyable and this is sure to make him a hit among the masses. Lara Dutta comes up with a brilliant performance, she is a complete natural as a homely house wife. There is a battalion of supporting artists but among whom Om Puri and Rajpal yadav impresses us the most. Shahrukh as Sahir Khan is good but still has to work on his emotions, especially his emotional sequence at the climax.
Overall Billu Barber is a decent one time watch. The climax is the high point of the movie and some of the dialogues does crack you up. Go for it but I would recommend Katha Parayumbol if you had not yet seen it.

Slumdog hero gets loudest cheer at BAFTA
London: Indian-origin British teenager Dev Patel won the loudest cheer from fans as he walked up the red carpet for the BAFTA awards ceremony.
The Slumdog Millionaire actor, who comes from an ordinary family in the London suburb of Harrow, received a deafening welcome from fans when he joined the red carpet at the Royal Opera House on Sunday night, Sky News reported.
The cheers were louder than those for Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
But Dev, 18, told Sky he was yet to perfect his showbiz smile, saying, "I haven't got anything down to a tee yet, I just look baffled."
"I'm a British boy, from Harrow, so it's nice to get local support," he added.
Patel, who lost the BAFTA lead actor award to Mikey Rourke for The Wrestler, was overwhelmed with his nomination that also pitted him against Brad Pitt.
"Those guys are just amazing actors, I've been watching them since before I ever contemplated acting," the newcomer said.
Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle told Sky, "I've learnt a lot about the film from audiences. I didn't realise this film is really the Rocky story - a kid from nowhere makes it, and it is not about money or success, it's about a girl in the end."

Slumdog sweeps BAFTA; next stop Oscar?
London "Slumdog Millionaire", the feel good film about a Mumbai tea-boy, swept the BAFTA awards when it won seven prizes including the Best Music Score for Indian composer A R Rahman and the Best Film at the prestigious award function in London.
The Danny Boyle-directed film was nominated under 11 categories and won seven, including the Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy and Best Sound Editing for Indian sound technician Resul Pookutty at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
The underdog winner story with Indian cast and crew is a strong favourite to win awards at the Oscars on February 22, where it has been nominated under 10 categories.
"It's getting better and better and let's hope for the biggest one-the Oscars," said Rahman after winning the award, which were held at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden.
Director Danny Boyle said the award was for Mumbai.
"We are hugely indebted for everybody honoured and those who were nominated tonight, to the people of Mumbai especially the actors Anil and Irrfan and all the other young actors who helped us- Ayush and Azhar," said Boyle after accepting the award for Best director.
British-Indian Dev Patel and Indian actress Frieda Pinto were also nominated for the Best Actor category and Best Supporting Actress but lost to Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and actor Mickey Rourke respectively.
But Patel did not seem disappointed. "Its a thrill for me. I feel so blessed," said Patel, who plays the protagonist 'Jamaal' in the film.
"To be honest we didn't really think about it. It was really absolutely fantastic. 'Slumdog...' has completely swept BAFTA awards and they have accepted it. Everybody is absolutely exhilarated with what is happening," said Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who plays game-show host Prem Kumar in the movie.
"With just the way people have responded we have already become a winner of sorts. Winning the Oscars would be the cherry on the cake," said film's co-director Loveleen Tandon.
The film was also hailed by star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who termed it as "lovely film".
Pitt's film, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was also nominated under 11 categories at the BAFTA but managed to win only three awards in the categories—Production Design, Make Up and Hair and Special Visual Effects.
"It is nice to see such reaction in America and we are opening up to other cultures in the world," said Pitt, who lost to "The Wrestler" star Mickey Rourke in the Best Actor category at the BAFTA.
The other top winners at the star-studded ceremony were British actress Kate Winslet and late actor Heath Ledger.
Winslet, who has already bagged two Golden Globe awards, picked up the BAFTA in the Leading Actress category for her role as a former Nazi prison camp guard in "The Reader". She had previously won the BAFTA in 1995.
Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died last year due to an accidental overdose of prescribed drugs, received a posthumous BAFTA nod for Best Supporting Actor for his
villainous performance as 'the Joker' in Batman movie, "The Dark Knight". Ledger has also won an award at the Golden Globes and is a strong favourite for the Oscars as well.
Spanish actress Penelope Cruz won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Woody Allen's film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona".
Comedy film "In Bruges" won the award for Best Original Screenplay, while "I've Loved You So Long" was awarded the prize for Best Non-English language film. James Marsh's "Man on Wire" won the BAFTA for outstanding British film.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards are considered the Oscars of Britain and are now seen as an indicator of probable winners at the Academy awards.

Rahman to sizzle Oscar Night
A. R. Rahman has received an invitation he would remember for a very long time to come. The music wizard will be opening Oscar Night on February 22 with a song that features in 'Slumdog Millionaire' 'Jai Ho'. Singer Sukhwinder Singh would accompany Rahman on stage.
Latest reports reveal that Rahman is altering the song a bit so that it will be in perfect synchronization with the live orchestration that will accompany his song. The musician as already reported has been nominated in three categories and is considered a front runner to win the highly coveted Oscar. 'Jai Ho' and 'O Saaya' have been nominated in the original song category and Rahman has been nominated in the Best original Score category.
Noted lyricist Gulzar is also expected to be present with his team when the famous ceremony unfolds.
Rahman being invited to perform is widely considered as a giant leap by an Indian musician especially because the performance is expected to enthrall global audiences. Indian music would most certainly be on the most desirable list among worldwide music lovers.
Now wouldn't that make a billion hearts glad?

For the last two decades, we never had a spellbinding flick winning us prestigious awards including Oscars. Any guesses what was the only film in 1980s that won us accolades? Of course, it’s none other than ‘The Gandhi’ directed Richard Attenborough starring Ben Kingsley in lead role. And now, here a film making each and every Indian to be prouder and that’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. None could have imagined that Vikas Swaroop’s ‘Q & A’ would be adapted by Danny Boyle and win such prestigious awards including the nominations of Oscars.
The attributes of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepathi’ pulled everyone’s attention as a first factor. Likewise, the game show ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’ in the west. And then the scintillating tale of how a Slumdog answers all the tough questions that couldn’t be answered by any doctors, General Knowledge-walas and engineers.
Yeah, that’s something unique and exceptional. Each question he faces takes us back to the most desperate part of his life, especially the last question that would win him Rs. 2million dollars.
The story of Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother Salim (Madhur Mittal) grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions. Each chapter of Jamal’s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show’s seemingly impossible quizzes. Dev Patel astonishes with his stunning act in each frame. You can better call him ‘A Genius’ and he carry off everything with an ease. Watch his gestures while Irrfan Khan asks him ‘Who’s there on Hundred Rupees Note?’ or his facial expressions while answering the last question uncaring for the big prize; they are mindblowing. Freida Pinto offers a great show with her minimal role. Madhur Mittal as Dev’s brother steals the show with his over-the-top acting, particularly in the climax. Sing appraisals for Anil Kapoor’s bold performance and Ditto to Irrfan Khan. Saurabh Shukla is great depicting himself as a constable missing his sleep for past 2 days.
Musical score by Rahman transfixes you to the uttermost. In particular, the numbers ‘Jai Ho’ and ‘O Saayo’ are splendiferous on all quotients and Rahman can thank his Sound Engineer. Cinematography is extremely commendable and watching a different Mumbai is awesome and editing deserves same credits….
On the whole, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is a must watch flick by everyone. In fact, we are sure none of the Indian Filmmakers would ever dream about making such a film, especially in Kollywood.
Verdict: Cancel everything and watch this….

‘Raaz’ was a hit movie and it is expected that its sequel will be equally impressive but the movie “Raaz - The Mystery Continues” is not a sequel of ‘Raaz’ although it can be said to be another horror movie form Bhatt camp. Last years success of RGV’s ‘Phoonk’ and ’1920’ might have encouraged Mukesh Bhatt to plan another movie with a horror subject and it was made in name of a hit movie ‘Raaz.’
The story of the film ‘Raaz The mystery continues’ is about an artist Prithvi who generally paints something mysterious and his paintings foretell incidents. The painter paints about women whom he never met and later he tries to search for the girl. Once he paints that the girl is dead. He finds the girl Nandita who refuses to believe that the story of the painter and her boyfriend is also not interested in ghostly stories of the painter.
Later an accident changes her perception about the paintings and she feels that to change her luck she will have to stay in touch with the painter and will have to believe him. But that will part her away from her boyfriend.
The story of the film is about the premonitions and ghostly experiences like the person who is going to be killed is alone and he is followed by some kind of spirit or he gets attacked at some point of his life. You could feel the horror factor and the movie doesn’t go to show any scientifically designed reason or logic behind the incidents and the movie looses grip in the second part.
Most of the previously released horrors like ‘Phoonk’ and ‘1920’ had poor depiction of climax and same can be said for ‘Raaz - The Mystery Continues’ that picks up smoothly in the first part but later in the movie you don’t get proper twists and turns to keep you glued. The depiction and cinematography is attractive. The love songs of the movie have already got many fans and the costumes, look and performance of lead Emraan Hashmi and Kangna Ranaut is impressive.
The film will get audience who love to watch horror movies in multiplex and even in small towns.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ review: Audiences will love this modern fairy tale
Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” is an audience-pleaser with a story arc right out of the Arabian Nights.
An impoverished orphan through pluck and determination fights for a fortune and the woman of his dreams. But this fable unfolds in a very real place — the mean streets of modern India — and the obstacles our hero must overcome are not the fantastic creatures of legend but the dark and all-too-real impulses of greed, lust, cruelty.
Boyle has made such diverse films as the heroin addict comedy “Trainspotting,” the zombie hit “28 Days Later” and the sci-fi epic “Sunshine.” Clearly he was seduced by the colors and energy of India, for “Slumdog Millionaire” pours off the screen in a torrent of arresting images.
We meet young Jamal (Dev Patel) handcuffed to a chair in a police interrogation room where a detective (Irfan Khan) tortures him with fists and electric shocks. The cop believes that Jamal, the longest-standing contestant on India’s version of the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” has been cheating. He cannot believe that this uneducated “slumdog” could have answered all those tough questions without help.
So Jamal tells his story, illustrating how coincidences in his life have providentially come together to provide the answers he needed.
Simon Beaufoy’s screenplay (from Vikas Swarup’s novel) skips among three time frames. In the present we have the police interrogation. Then we have flashbacks to Jamal’s spectacular performance on the TV show.
But by far the largest part of the film is devoted to Jamal’s childhood. In the slums of Mumbai we witness the anti-Muslim riot in which his mother was killed. We follow young Jamal, his older brother Salim and the orphaned girl Latika as they scramble to survive.
Taken in by a “charity,” they realize too late that its Dickensian operators use the children as beggars. The brothers escape but must leave behind Latika, whose memory will haunt Jamal over the ensuing decade.
The boys become scam artists. Salim is particularly ruthless, and when they finally free Latika from her imprisonment he claims her sexual favors as payment. The devastated Jamal can only run off to begin his life anew.
In the present Salim (Madhur Mittal) has become the charismatic lieutenant of a notorious gangster, and Latika (the gorgeous Freida Pinto) is the mob boss’s kept woman. Jamal’s love for her is undimmed … in fact the whole point of getting on the TV show is not to win money but to get Latika’s attention and to prove himself worthy.
Entertaining though it may be, “Slumdog Millionaire” never delivers the expected emotional payoff. In part that’s because the three main characters are portrayed at different ages by three sets of actors, a necessary choice that dissipates audience involvement.
And as the 20-year-old Jamal, Dev Patel is almost too passive, facing adversity with stoicism and rarely letting loose with real emotion.
Still, it’s a diverting yarn, one pulsing with unexpected sights and sounds. Sometimes you’d swear you can smell this movie.

Chandni Chowk To China - A turbulent journey
Perhaps, Chandni Chowk to China has nothing phenomenal, but a timeworn script of a coward transcending into a hero, and an estranged family getting unified. Producers promoted CC2C as 'First Ever Bollywood Kung Fu comedy' and for your kind information, the flick doesn't possess top-notching humorous elements or the splendid Kung-Fu you would expect. Well, you've them in bits 'n' pieces amidst of a very long show, running for 160 minutes. Sluggish screenplay blended with lots of ridiculous factors does get you annoyed and Nikil could have cut the duration short thereby favoring him.
Despite Akki, Ramesh Sippy, Warner Bros and biggies together on the lead, the flick doesn't surmount your expectations. Above all, the most disappointing attribute is that we don't get to see spell-binding stunts choreographed by Huen Chiu-Ku. Naturally, everyone expected there to be ones like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Kill Bill” Volmes. 1 and 2 and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". Again, it's all about dashing down our hopes.
Our protagonist Sidhu (Akshay Kumar) is the lowest on the totem pole, cutting vegetables at a roadside food stall in Chandni Chowk in Delhi. He longs to escape his dreary existence and looks for shortcuts- with astrologers, tarot readers and fake fakirs - believing anything except himself, despite his father figure Dada's (Mithun Chakraborty) best efforts. His redeeming moment arrives when two strangers from China claim him as a reincarnation of a war hero in the past and take him to China. Sidhu now dreams of wine, women, and a princely existence in foreign lands. Thanks to the devious translator, a conman by the name Chopstick (Ranvir Shorey), little does he know that he is being taken to the Promised Land to rid the Chinese village of the vicious smuggler Hojo (Gordon Liu)!
Therefore, Sidhu blissfully sets forth to China with Chopstick who instigates dreams of a delicious future and forgets to reveal the perils, which await him. Along the way, he meets Sakhi (Deepika Padukone), Ms. Tele Shoppers Media (Ms. TSM) who has embarked on a journey to pay homage to the land of her birth and her dead father and twin. Initially, Sidhu through a series of lucky coincidences manages to sidestep being beaten by Hojo's men but finally Hojo catches up with him and exposes him as the country buffoon that he really is. Sidhu has the fire of revenge in his belly and finds the one man who will make him a Kung Fu expert and set the village free. Armed with his Sifu (master), faith in himself and the love of the fair Sakhi, Sidhu sets forth to conquer all!
Nothing to blame on star-casts for they stride with their best spells. Akshay Kumar getting back to pavilion with action-hero is over the top and comedy sense is a splendid show. But, he gets stripped out with an inadequate script. A newfangled Deepika Padukone on dual role steals the show, especially on the characterization of 'Meow-Meow'. Alas! There's nothing such as romance so-touching between Akki and Deepika, blame Nikil Advani for that.
Gordon Liu strikes with a mind-boggling performance. Be it his gestures or his scaring stare, they're awesome. Mithun Chakraborthy with his minimal role makes a good impression (As in his previous flick 'Yuvvraaj'.) Ranvir Shorey with his clichéd acting wins appreciations emoting stupendously on all situations).
The narration is really perplexing. Wonder how Warner Bros picked up a flimsy script with absurdities. It is ok to miss out fine logics when you're penning a script on fantasy-action, but Nikil Advani comes up with quite galling attributes. How come strangers from China assume Akshay as their reincarnated war-lord? Even a dim-witted or 5-sense individual wouldn't fleet to a strange land ignoring his relations with a blind plan. In fact, how does Mithun permit Akki for this meaningless venture? All these are questions to which we can’t find answers. And Deepika's trip to China is well expected and a formula already tried and exhausted in many films.
Perhaps, this is the first ever film to be extensively shot at the Great Wall of China, but again cinematography isn't worth mentioning. Songs are catchy on the screen especially 'Sidhu' is fantastic with hilarious elements blended. The whistling of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' as signature tune is a good pick. Thanks to Mozart for an enchanting tune. 'Chak Le' is where you to get to watch Akki preparing for retaliation. Rather than depicting him seriously frustrated, it's weird to watch the protagonist with goofy gestures. These sequences fail to make an impact on the audiences. The latter half of the film lacks solidity with a dragging screenplay that offers 'boredom' till the penultimate sequences. Signature style of voice uttering 'From Chandni Chowk to Africa' during the climax is sure to delight Akki fans because we can expect a sequel.
On the whole, Chandni Chowk to China would have been better if Nikil had penned a substantial screenplay that could've got our attentions from getting scattered. Apart from a few hilarious scenes and Kung Fu (Especially Roti-rolling style), the flick lacks finesse.
Verdict: Middling on all quotients.

Asin strikes gold!
The annual Screen awards ceremony for Hindi films was held yesterday (14th Jan) evening. The whole of Bollywood got together to applaud the best performances of 2008. There was a proud moment for all Tamil cinema lovers when Asin was presented with the Best Newcomer award by yesteryear great Rekha. She was also nominated in the best
Asin
actress category but could not make it. She said that Asin was really worth of the honor and that she had done a good job. Asin was also later seen speaking with Sanjay Khan (who was given the Lifetime Achievement Award) and Jeetendra, both of whom were very appreciative of her performance.
Meanwhile, Rahman added another two to his kitty, winning the best music award for Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na and the best background score for Jodha Akbar.

3 Globes for Slumdog: Director, music, screenplay
The prestigious Golden Globe Awards ceremony to honour the best in the world cinema has begun in Los Angeles.
India-based story of an underdog, the Danny Boyle-directed Slumdog Millionaire in on a winning spree, first bagging the award for the Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Screenplay category (Simon Beaufoy), and the Best Original Score (A R Rahman).
"Your mad, pulsating affection for our film is much appreciated," said director Danny Boyle.
The story of a slum kid who participates in popular reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who Wants to be a Millionaire) and ends up winning Rs 2 crore, the protagonist Dev Patel won the most promising newcomer award at the British Independent Film Awards recently as well as the Best Young Actor Award at the Critics' Choice Awards.
Shot in Mumbai, the film has also been nominated in the Best Director Category (Danny Boyle) and Best Original Score category (A R Rahman)
