India reclaim second spot in ICC rankings

New Delhi: India's 1-0 series win over England following the drawn second Test in Mohali has put them in second spot in the ICC Test rankings.

India reclaimed their second place from South Africa, who had briefly taken over the spot after their win over Australia in the recent Perth Test.

India won the first Test in Chennai by six wickets and drew the second in Mohali on Tuesday, enough to earn it two ratings points and go ahead of South Africa in second.

South Africa, though, will have the second spot up for grabs once again when they take on Australia in the second Test in Melbourne beginning on Boxing Day. A 2-1 or 2-0 result in favour of South Africa, or even a drawn 1-1 series would confirm their position as the No. 2 side. They can even topple Australia from the top spot if they beat the world champions 3-0.

Meanwhile, there was no change in the West Indies’ and New Zealand's pre-series points and positions after their two-Test series ended in a 0-0 draw in Napier on Tuesday.

The West Indies’s next Test commitment is in February when they host England for a four-Test series while New Zealand play India in their own backyard in a two-Test series in March.
